Overview Appendicitis is a swelling of the appendix, a finger-shaped pouch which projects on the lower right side of your abdomen from your colon. Appendicitis in your lower right abdomen causes discomfort. However, pain starts around the navel in most cases and then moves. Appendicitis pain usually increases as inflammation worsens, and ultimately becomes severe. While anyone may develop appendicitis, it mostly occurs commonly in people between the ages of 10 and 30.
