This medicine is not selective against all\nmalaria strains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hydroxychloroquine is also an\nantirheumatic drug which is used to cure symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and\nsyste-19mic lupus erythematosus or discoid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Uses\"><\/span><strong>Uses<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is used to avoid or cure malaria\ncaused by mosquito bites. It is often used in areas where it is understood that\nother medicines (e.g., chloroquine) do not work, to avoid malaria infection.\nThe US Centres for Disease Control provides new guidelines and travel advice\nfor malaria prevention and treatment in different parts of the world. Discuss\nwith your doctor about the most recent details before going to places where\nmalaria exists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This medicine is also used for the\ntreatment of certain auto-immune diseases (lupus, rheumatoid arthritis). It\nbelongs to a class of medicines called disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs\n(DMARDs). It can reduce skin problems in lupus and prevent swelling\/ arthritis\npain<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hydroxychloroquine belongs to a group\nof antimalarial drugs. It works by preventing or treating malaria, an infection\nof the red blood cell caused by a mosquito\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s bite. This medicine is still not\nused to treat serious or complicated malaria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is used to treat discoid lupus\nerythematosus (DLE) or systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE or lupus). It is also\nused for treating chronic rheumatoid arthritis and acute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This medication is only available on\nprescription from the doctor. This medicine can be found in the form of tablet\ndosage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Hydroxychloroquine_side_effects\"><\/span><strong>Hydroxychloroquine side effects<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have signs of an allergic\nreaction to hydroxychloroquine get emergency medical help: hives, the problem\nin breathing, and swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;Discuss with your doctor at once\nif you have:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Headache\nwith chest pain and extreme dizziness, fainting, fast or irregular heartbeats<\/li><li>Very\nslow heart rate<\/li><li>Muscle\nweakness, numbness or tingling<\/li><li>Low\nblood sugar <\/li><li>Low\nblood cell counts <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Side effects aren&#8217;t common. However, in some people hydroxychloroquine\ncan cause:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Skin\nrashes, especially those made worse by sunlight<\/li><li>Feeling\nsick (nausea) or indigestion<\/li><li>Nausea,\nvomiting, stomach pain<\/li><li>Hair\nloss<\/li><li>Loss\nof appetite, weight loss<\/li><li>Mood\nchanges, feeling nervous or irritable<\/li><li>Headaches<\/li><li>Bleaching\nof the hair or mild hair loss<\/li><li>Tinnitus\n(ringing in the ears)<\/li><li>Visual\nproblems.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>There&#8217;s a slight risk that\nhydroxychloroquine may damage a portion of the inside of the eye called the\nretina. And this excessed with higher dosage and long term use. Stop taking\nthis drug and call your doctor immediately if you have trouble facing, if you\nsee light spots or sparks in your vision, or if you note any colour changes in\nyour eyes or swelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your doctor will advise you on a\nhealthy dose to be taken according to your weight, and you will need to check\nyour eyes daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This monitoring of your eyes may be\narranged at a hospital clinic when you start the drug and then again once a\nyear in a hospital when you have been taking the drug for more than five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Otherwise, you should have a check-up\nwith an optician once a year and tell them that you&#8217;re taking\nhydroxychloroquine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You should report any new eye\nsymptoms to your doctor straight away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-large is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>Does hydroxychloroquine work against COVID-19?<\/strong><\/p><cite>In recent weeks, the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine has made headlines for its ability to help with the new coronavirus outbreak, COVID-19, though its benefits remain unproven.<br> There is not enough scientific evidence at this time to prove that hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine work for COVID-19 \u00e2\u20ac\u201d although some small studies suggest the medications may be helpful, other studies saw no difference.<br> \u00e2\u20ac\u0153In laboratory studies, Chloroquine seems to block the coronavirus.
