The condition most often occurs in molars that are\npartially impacted, or not fully visible. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s also more common in lower molars\nthan in the upper ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most people\nwith pericoronitis have a gum tissue flap which partially covers the crown of\nthe erupting tooth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on a\nvariety of factors, your doctor can recommend that the flap be removed or the\ntooth extracted. Problems are more likely to happen if\nthe symptoms are not treated promptly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ninfection will also spread from the infected region and can cause swelling and\ndiscomfort in certain areas of the head and neck. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trismus,\nwhen a person has difficulty opening his mouth or biting down, may also be a\ncomplication. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In rare\ncases, pericoronitis complications may also pose life-threatening consequences.\nUntreated pericoronitis can lead to angina in Ludwig, which is an infection\nspreading under the jaw and tongue. This disorder can also cause certain\nprofound infections in the head, neck, or throat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is\nalso the possibility that the infection can spread into the bloodstream, in a\ncondition known as sepsis, which can also be life-threatening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_home_remedies_can_you_do_for_pericoronitis\"><\/span>What home remedies can you do for pericoronitis?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Proper oral\nhygiene remains the best home remedy you can make for mild pericoronitis\nindications.&nbsp; Thoroughly and gently brush\nyour teeth to remove plaque and food. You can also use oral water irrigators to\nclear particles and bacteria from under the operculum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To soothe\ninflammation, you can rinse with warm salt water or diluted hydrogen peroxide\nto reduce the bacteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However,\nwhen symptoms are severe, seek proper care from the right healthcare\nprofessionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Prevention\"><\/span>Prevention<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The best way\nto prevent periodontitis is to follow a good oral hygiene program, once you\nstart early and practice consistently throughout your life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Good oral hygiene. That means at least twice daily \u00e2\u20ac\u201d in the\nmorning and before going to bed \u00e2\u20ac\u201d brushing your teeth for two minutes and flossing\nat least once a day. Flossing before brushing allows the loosened food\nparticles and bacteria to be cleaned away. Good oral hygiene prevents the\ndevelopment of an environment around your teeth which is favourable to specific\nperiodontal disease-causing bacteria.<\/li><li>Regular dental visits. For cleanings, see the dentist or dental\nhygienist regularly, about every six to twelve months.
