Deafness is the\nutter powerlessness of hearing speech. The causes of deafness and hearing loss\nare numerous and can occur at any age. People can suddenly go deaf as a\ncomplication of a virus, or lose their hearing over time due to disease, nerve\ndamage, or noise-induced injury. Around three in 1,000 babies are born deaf,\nmostly due to genetic factors. When you feel\nregularly like you can&#8217;t hear on the call, whether you use a landline or a cell\nphone, this could be a symptom of hearing loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You avoid social interactions that once were pleasant:&nbsp;<\/strong>people who are not able to communicate easily feel left out of\nconversations, or who have bad experiences trying to hear in public spaces\noften decide it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s easier to decline invitations and stay at home. It doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t\nhave to be this way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Others tell you that you have a hearing loss:&nbsp;<\/strong>If more than one friend or family member asks your hearing\nacuity \u00e2\u20ac\u201d in seriousness or jest \u00e2\u20ac\u201d what do you guess? They might be on to\nsomething.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Causes\"><\/span>Causes&nbsp;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The causes of hearing loss and deafness can be inherited or\ncongenital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Congenital causes&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congenital causes can lead to hearing loss at or acquired\nshortly after birth. Hearing loss can be caused by genetic factors inherited\nand non-hereditary or by certain complications during pregnancy and childbirth,\nincluding:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Low birth weight;<\/li><li>Asphyxia from birth (a lack of oxygen at birth);&nbsp;<\/li><li>Maternal rubella, syphilis, or any other pregnancy infections<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Acquired causes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The causes acquired may lead to hearing loss at any age, for\nexample:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Infectious diseases including meningitis, measles and mumps;<\/li><li>Chronic ear infections;<\/li><li>Ear fluid collection (otitis media);<\/li><li>Use of other medications, such as those used to treat neonatal\ndiseases, malaria, drug-resistant tuberculosis and cancers<\/li><li>Head injury or an ear injury<\/li><li>Excessive noise, including the noise from machinery and\nexplosions at work<\/li><li>Ageing, especially due to sensory cell degeneration; and&nbsp;<\/li><li>Ear canal blocking wax or foreign bodies;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Risk_factors\"><\/span>Risk factors<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Factors which can damage or cause hair loss and nerve cells loss\nin your inner ear include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Aging:<\/strong>&nbsp;Degeneration of inner ear structures occurs over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Loud Noise:<\/strong>&nbsp;Exposure to noisy noises can damage your inner ear cells.\nDamage can occur with long-term exposure to loud noises, or from a brief noise\nblast, such as a gunshot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Heredity:<\/strong>&nbsp;Your genetic makeup will make you more susceptible to ear\ndamage caused by voice or ageing degradation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Medications<\/strong>: Drugs like gentamicin antibiotics, sildenafil (Viagra) and\nother chemotherapy drugs can harm the inner ear. Temporary effects on your\nhearing \u00e2\u20ac\u201d ear ringing (tinnitus) or hearing loss \u00e2\u20ac\u201d can occur if you are taking\nextremely large doses of aspirin, other pain relievers, antimalarial\nmedications, or diuretics throughout the loop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Illnesses:<\/strong>&nbsp;The cochlea can be damaged by diseases or illnesses that\nresult in high fever, such as meningitis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Complications\"><\/span>Complications&nbsp;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Hearing loss has been shown to harm the quality of life and\nmental health of individuals. When you&#8217;re having hearing loss, you might have\ntrouble understanding others. This can increase your level of anxiety, or\ntrigger depression. Treatment for hearing loss will greatly change your life.\nYou will regain trust in yourself, while also strengthening your ability to\ncommunicate with others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Prevention\"><\/span>Prevention<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Nothing can prevent problems of hearing that arise from birth or\nhearing impairment due to illness or accident.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some steps can, however, be taken to reduce the risk of losing\nany of your sense of hearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The structures in the ears can be damaged in several different\nways. Long-term noise exposure above 85 dB \u00e2\u20ac\u201c the frequency of a standard\nlawnmower \u00e2\u20ac\u201c will potentially result in hearing loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following measures may help protect your hearing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>TV, radio, music players, and toys:<\/strong>&nbsp;Do\n     not set too large a volume. The children are highly sensitive to the\n     adverse effects of loud music. Noisy toys can endanger hearing for\n     children.<\/li><li><strong>Headphones:<\/strong>&nbsp;Concentrate on isolating the\n     sounds you want to hear and removing as much sound from the world as\n     possible, rather than filtering it out with high volume.<\/li><li><strong>Occupational health:<\/strong>&nbsp;If you work in\n     noisy surroundings like discotheques, nightclubs and pubs, wear earplugs\n     or earmuffs.<\/li><li><strong>Leisure venues:<\/strong>&nbsp;If you go to pop concerts,\n     motor racing, drag racing, and other noisy events, wear earplugs.<\/li><li><strong>Cotton swabs:<\/strong>&nbsp;Don&#8217;t poke them into ears of\n     adults or babies. The same applies to the tissues or Q-tips.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Hearing can often deteriorate with age, but taking the correct\npreventive measure early on can reduce the risk.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hearing loss is the impaired hearing capacity.
