It is also known as oral candidiasis. This is an infection caused by\nthe yeast, which is the candida fungus. You will get it into your mouth and\nother body parts. For infants, it can cause diaper rash or female vaginal yeast\ninfections. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Everyone\nmay get thrush but babies and children, older adults and people with\ncompromised immune systems mouth dotted with white patches<\/li><li>at the corners of the mouth there may be cracks and redness<\/li><li>Loss of taste<\/li><li>Unpleasant taste in the mouth<\/li><li>Burning or soreness by that it is hard to eat and drink <\/li><li>Redness and pain under dentures.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In babies, signs of\noral thrush are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>White spots on the inside of the cheeks<\/li><li>Fussiness, irritability, and feeding difficulties<\/li><li>Nappy rash. <\/li><li>A white coated covers the tongue which cannot be easily\nwashed off<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Women who develop candida infection of the breast may experience the\nfollowing signs and symptoms:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Abnormally red, sensitive, cracked, or itchy nipples<\/li><li>Nipple and areola may have a shiny appearance<\/li><li>Pain in breasts during or after feeds, which can be very serious\nand last for up to an hour<\/li><li>A pain that stabs or stings deep inside the breast.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A doctor should also be consulted if oral thrush develops in older\nchildren, teenagers, or adults to check for an underlying medical condition They are usually\nheld in check by other bacteria and microorganisms in the body. You may\npass this infection on to your kids.<\/li><li><strong>Medications.<\/strong>&nbsp; Drugs\nlike prednisone, inhaled corticosteroids, or antibiotics that disrupt the\nnatural balance of your body&#8217;s microorganisms that increase your risk of oral\nthrush.<\/li><li><strong>Other oral conditions.<\/strong>&nbsp;Wearing\ndentures, particularly the upper dentures, or having dry mouth conditions that\nincrease the risk of oral thrush.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Complications\"><\/span><a>Complications <\/a><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Oral thrush rarely causes\ncomplications in people who have healthy immune systems. In severe cases, it\nmay spread to your&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/candida-esophagitis\">esophagus<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your immune system is\nweakened, you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re more likely to develop complications from thrush. The\nthrush-causing fungus will invade your bloodstream and spread to your heart,\nbrain, eyes or other parts of your body, without proper treatment. This is\nknown as invasive or systemic candidiasis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Systemic candidiasis can cause\nproblems in the organs it affects. It can also cause a potentially\nlife-threatening condition known as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/septic-shock\">septic shock<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Home_Remedies_for_Oral_Thrush\"><\/span><a>Home Remedies for Oral Thrush<\/a><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Alongside medical treatment, the\nfollowing can help reduce the risk of worsening the condition:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Rinse\n     mouth with salt water.<\/li><li>Use a\n     soft toothbrush to avoid scraping the lesions.<\/li><li>Eat\n     unsweetened yogurt to maintain healthy bacteria levels.<\/li><li>Using a\n     new toothbrush every day until the infection is gone.<\/li><li>Do not\n     use mouthwashes or sprays.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Prevention_of_oral_thrush\"><\/span><a>Prevention of oral thrush<\/a><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To manage the risk of oral\nthrush, try the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>rinsing your mouth after meals<\/li><li>brushing your teeth twice a day with a toothpaste that contains\nfluoride and interdental cleaning (flossing) regularly<\/li><li>visiting your dentist if your dentures&nbsp;do not fit\nproperly<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhsinform.scot\/healthy-living\/stopping-smoking\/\">stopping smoking<\/a>&nbsp;if you\nsmoke<\/li><li>Ensure any underlying disorders that you have, such as\ndiabetes, are well managed<\/li><li>&nbsp;To regularly\nvisit the dentist for check-ups, particularly though you wear dentures or have\nno natural teeth <\/li><li>remove the dentures at night, clean it with paste or soap\nand water before soaking it in water and denture-cleaning tablets <\/li><li>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 Clean your gums, tongue and inside your mouth twice a day\nwith a soft brush if you wear dentures or if you have no or no natural teeth<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is Oral Thrush?
