But, with many slipping into debt, being disabled, or facing injustice, they are often extremely vulnerable.

The number of older persons is increasing as health care progresses. Their needs, as well as their contributions to society, are also rising. UNFPA promotes study into the phenomena of global aging, which advocates the implementation of policies that respect and address the needs of older people.

The International Day of Older Peoples on October 1 is a day to stand up for ageism and to encourage the growth of a community that is accommodating to people of all ages.

The United States joins groups around the world on the International Day of Older Peoples to pause and focus on the contributions of older people worldwide and also to urge all nations to recognize and discuss the problems faced by older people thoughtfully.

Since 1991, when the United Nations first declared October 1st as the International Day of Older Peoples, this day has been celebrated annually. Global population dynamics have shifted significantly over the last 28 years. The percentage of the world population 60 years or older has risen significantly and continues to do so. Today, almost a billion people are 60 or older, and there will be more than 2 billion older adults in the world by 2050.

It is observed that the International Day of Older Peoples recognizes the contributions rendered to society by the older generation. It seeks to increase awareness about aging prospects and problems in the country.

Table of Contents

Toggle

Introduction:

The goals of this day:

How do people Celebrate this day?

International Day of Older Person activities can include:

Why it is important

Introduction:

As representatives, caretakers, and custodians of heritage, older persons have long played a major role in society. Every year, on the first of October, the International Day of Older Peoples is celebrated which is an occasion to highlight the significant contributions that older people bring to society and increase awareness of the benefits and problems of aging in today’s world.

To resolve and cope with many of the issues, it is very easy for people to make many changes in their own lives. Elders are the ones who are the eldest according to all of their family members except parents. So after parents, here is a first Respect granted to family elders who have every responsibility to manage and resolve every family issue. At this time of the year, you will see officials and legislators make speeches that reflect on this growing segment of the population. This will also be taken by the media as a chance to publish interviews. Many of them would be for elderly people who have had an impact on society. The day can also be used by schools, civic institutions, and office buildings to advertise events that promote the elderly.

The celebration of International Older People’s Day is aimed at raising awareness and empathy for the well-being of the elderly.
