The body&#8217;s natural defense mechanism cannot distinguish between healthy cells and foreign ones, causing inflammation (painful swelling). When you have an autoimmune disease, your immune system accidentally causes inflammation in healthy tissue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The immune system in a healthy person is dormant (inactive). The immune system gets activated when the body is infected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The immune system turns overactive in people with an autoimmune disorder, causing inflammation even when there is no infection. In cases like <strong>rheumatoid arthritis<\/strong>, inflammation occurs around the body&#8217;s joints, resulting in joint swelling and pain that <strong>rheumatoid arthritis <\/strong>patients experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, researchers have not yet identified the exact <strong>rheumatoid arthritis causes.<\/strong> However, medical professionals identify specific RA risk factors. These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Sex<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/referenceworkentry\/10.1007\/978-3-319-33434-9_60\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><strong>RA is twice as common in women <\/strong><\/a>than in men. Women&#8217;s estrogen levels drop during menopause which may have a role in the increased risk of arthritis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Age<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>RA can strike at any age, but it is most frequent among adults (30-50 years). RA treatment needs in adults are different from children and young. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Family History<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A positive family history of <strong>rheumatoid arthritis<\/strong> puts one at a slightly higher risk. Early <strong>Rheumatoid Arthritis symptoms<\/strong> may include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Minor joint pain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stiffness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fatigue<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Joint symptoms may include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Feel achy and stiff in the morning<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stiffness after rest or inactivity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inflamed or swollen<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Joint pain on both sides of the body.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tender or warm<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Loss of mobility and deformation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Other symptoms include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pain in the chest<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dry mouth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Burning and itching sensation in eyes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Small, round lumps under the skin<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tingling or a burning sensation in hands and feet<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sleep difficulties<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>RA almost always affects your joints. The smaller joints, such as your fingers and toes, are the first to show signs of RA. Wrists, ankles, knees, elbows, hips, and other joints will be affected as the condition progresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The severity of <strong>RA symptoms<\/strong> varies, and they might come and go. If under-treated or ignored, inflammation from RA can cause joints to distort and shift out of place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_is_Rheumatoid_Arthritis_Diagnosed\"><\/span><strong>How is Rheumatoid Arthritis Diagnosed?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The preliminary steps include a thorough physical examination of the affected parts. Joints are closely examined for signs of swelling, redness, or impaired reflexes. Your doctor will also want to know when and how your <strong>Rheumatoid Arthritis symptoms <\/strong>started. Even if the initial X-rays are normal, they are crucial to determine the progress of the disease during a later stage.
