Prostate Specific Antigen test is performed on a sample of blood to measure level of Total PSA and Free PSA: Total PSA Ratio in blood.It is performed to detect Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia and Prostatic Carcinoma

No special preparation is needed for PSA. Inform your doctor if you are on any medications or have any underlying medical conditions or allergies before undergoing PSA. Your doctor depending on your condition will give specific instructions.
PSA is done using Automated method on a Blood sample.
The normal result for PSA for Total PSA is < 2 ng/ml for Male gender and for < 40 years. Free PSA: Total PSA Ratio is When the Total PSA is 4-10 ng/ml, a ratio of < 0.10 indicates a 49-65% risk of prostate cancer for Male gender and for All age groups.
