Treatment of pain in Ayurveda
According to Ayurveda Vata is the main Dosha involved in pain .It is responsible for generating and spreading the pain. However a specific fraction of Vayu is responsible for pain in a specific region such as; generalized pain is caused by Vyana Vayu, headache -Prana and Vyana Vayu, abdominal pain -Saman and Apan Vayu and chest pain - Vyan and Pran Vayu.
Ayurveda recommends herbal remedies, diet changes, improving digestion, removing toxin accumulation, stress, regular exercise and daily routine for treatment of pain.
Herbal remedies for relieving pain
Ayurvedic drugs used for treatment of pain are listed as Vedanasthapan Drugs by Charakachharya. As in all types of pain there is prevalence of Vayu, all remedies used for relieving should have some properties that can control the vitiated Vayu. Some of the commonly used ayurvedic remedies for pain relief are:
Headache -Jatamansi ,Brahmi,,Haritaki,Guduchi etc.
Intestinal colic and Gases - Hingu, Lavana, Yavani etc.
Uterine pain -Ashok, Daruharidra ,Dashamula etc.
Renal colic - Gokshura, Varuna etc
Arthritis -Nirgundi, Guggulu ,Dashamula etc.
Clearing toxins and impurities

Ayurveda recommends consumption of foods that are nutritious and easy to digest like green vegetables, fruits, juices. Avoid oily, fried and spicy foods.
